I’m not a Apple fanboy. But Apple is a cool company. iPhone is lightyears ahead of other phones. So what if it has only 2MP camera, or it can’t record videos, or cannot use 3G in India, or cannot share files via bluetooth, or can’t use it as external hard drive, or can’t use it as modem, or cannot have my own ringtones, or can’t send MMS. It is simply cool device. Anything that comes out of Apple, even if it’s a piece of shit, I would do anything to have it in my pocket. Apple is that awesome. Heck I would pay 50000 for this most advanced of all phones. Like I said before I’m not a Apple fanboy.

  9. Nits Says:

This is ridiculous pricing. AT 7 T is selling at 500$ & 600$ unlocked, legal iPhone 3G and these buggers are charging 31/36k. Seems like they have gone bonkers that they expect the people to buy this expensive stuff.

    “OVERPRICED IPHONE IN INDIA”

    Hi All,

I was very disappointed after getting the price from these two operators. My dream to own an iPhone was shattered …..i was waiting for it for more than 6 months……
I feel that the price have gone so high becoz of higher profit by retailers like Vodafone and Airtel……

  13. manoj Says:

I was very disappointed after getting the price from these two operators. verprices iPhone in India

  14. Kiran Says:

This is toooooooooooooooooo much for iPhone. Though its stylish but lacks most of the basic features required for indian market like mp3 ring tones, video. Couple months wait after release should bring down the price…….

  15. Moinak Says:

For a smartphone that lacks several basic features compared to even other non-smartphones 1/10th the price this pricing is ridiculous. Apple’s official price is $400 while service providers subsidise it to $200. This pricing does not make any sense in the price-conscious Indian market. I will not empty my pocket for fancy dancing icons and zooming/rotating screens!!
In addition the iPhone is an extremely locked down device. It can’t be used as a normal USB storage device. It’s storage can only be accessed via iTunes in limited ways. It can’t be used as a tethered modem. Apple likes to lock down stuff as much as possible and milk cash from subscribers. 3G is yet to make a large-scale entry in India though it eventually will quite soon.
In Bangalore one can get iPhones for way much less in the Gray market in unlocked form.

  16. Wangda Says:

Apple’s priceing policy when coming to India is quite disappointing…..Hope it will be bought by educated and capable of buying only….so my request to all indians to boycott iphone in india as all might understand difference in pricing world wide…..and here u see in india it’s charging very high where market is big meaning demand is high…so rather it shud be low na…

So to every indian citizen try to boycott and feel the pinch of amrketting strategy failure for westerner aslo…

So be with me and be together….say go back iphone together..

Vodafone & Airtel have made a big mistake by overprising IPHONE. Let’s boycott IPHONE in India and let world know that a best item with all the features can not be sold at very high price. In India Iphone contains all the features except one and that is price.

airtel as usual along with apple have proved that it will remain a customer sucking operator.and now vodafone also joined the fray. iphone is just junk if not for the touch screen capabilities.just expanding and shrinking job woon’t last more than 2 days.after that the life is hell for iphone users. This phone must be priced not more than 8-10 thousand if we compare with competitors(an unlocked one).At 31,000 it’s useless crap

    OVERPRICED IPHONE IN INDIA

  27. Triklops Says:

All of you who are cussing Apple for the price of iPhone in India are behaving like a bunch of ignorant twits. Its not Apple fault, the price of iPhone 3G in the US is 199$ and Steve Jobs himself had confirmed this in the WWDC 2008 iPhone launch. (All those who are quoting it at 400$ go to apple.com and do a f*ckn reality check)

Neither is Airtel or Vodafone to blame for it but the overwhelming excise & duties this f*cking government of ours puts on anything that gets imported to this country. Over 60 years of independence and still a fledgling 3rd world nation..way to go!! keep it up!!

Admire the effort though but u guys really think all this posting is going to make Airtel and Vodafone reduce the price of the iPhone..LOL..good luck!!
Herez a piece of advice though..if you got friends living outside India..especially in the US or UK get them to buy you one..
THATS EXACTLY WHAT I’M GONNA DO AND OUR GOVT. AIRTEL & VODAFONE CAN SUCK MY .

  28. Kalpesh Ajugia Says:

They think Indians are fools to buy iPhone at such a high price? Airtel and Vodafone and Apple have gone mad I guess. Insane creatures. At 20k if one can gett a N95 with a much better 5 Megapixel camera and Music Player and FM… then why would he/she buy iPhone? Just for the sake of a new animated interface and good looks? Shya. I would have paid a price close 20k or so but 36k… LOOT macha hai kya? I boycott iPhone.

  29. Surajit Says:

Triklops I do not agree with ur reasoning for high pricing. If u look the pricing of ipods in India and compare it with those in the US, there is not much price difference. eg. iPod shuffle costs $74 = 3250 in the USA (from apple.com) including taxes and shipping charges and in India it costs 3750. So I do not understand what special taxing is being done by the govt. in India that will increase a $199 phone to $700. This is a very old apple trick. They launched the iphone at $500 in the USA, and got the rich and famous to buy it and then slashed the prices once they got the money of the riches. Then by slashing the price they targeted the not-so-rich (the bigger market) and then compensated the ones who paid more by giving them Apple gift vouchers so that they buy something else again from apple for that amount by spending more money in buying something that they don’t even need.
I expect in India in the next six months, the prices will be slashed along with some bundled plans with Airtel or Vodafone (Postpaid plans with monthly rental of at least 1000) with 2 year-3 year contract. They will ensure u go for ECS or post-dates cheques to ensure u don’t cancel it later. This will happen eventually and then more people will buy and apple continues to be richer and richer… and then will come APPLE 3G V2.0 with stereo bluetooth support, video recording, copy/paste, 3.2-5 mp camera, sms forwarding and MMS and more that are currently missing…
Those features are missing because it was deliberate. I am founds 100s of users in USA who bought iphone 1st gen and then the 3g also when it cam out. Apple has left a lot of scope for improvement so that they get repeat buyers. If all the features are provided now, what will remain to improve that will appeal to the public to buy the new version… Think again.

Too high a price for just a flash value product. Boycott this phone in India. I suggest thousands of us should not buy it even if we can afford it, just to show these assholes that they can’t take us for a ride.

  31. Scorpio Says:

Fuck you Apple…. Show you who the indians are…?

  32. Bose Says:

They can give it in contract for 2yrs also as its is given in US. I’m ready to buy. Even though you guys are not supporting 3G. So atleast you guys have to come down with reasonable price…

    What you guys say…?

  33. Surajit Says:

Please note the following before buying:

    1> Only 2 mp camera
2> No Autofocus and No Flash
3> No Bluetooth file transfer to other bluetooth devices
4> No support for Stereo bluetooth headset (A2DP is not supported)
5> No support for 3rd party applications
6> No Flash or Java supported by the browser
7> Internet 8GB/16GB HDD cannot be used as a HDD to store personal data
8> Song/Videos can be transferred to the phone only using iTunes and cannot be transferred back.
    9> No Support for MMS
10> Does not support Instant messaging clients like yahoo messenger/ Google Talk!
    11> Unable to Forward SMS
    12> No Copy/Paste feature
13> No option of transferring contacts list from Phone to SimCard
14> Batteries are not user replaceable
    15> No Video Recording
16> Very difficult to type SMS fast with the TouchScreen keypad
17> 3G Not in India at least till Oct-2009
18> No support for Memory Cards/External Storage
19> You are stuck with the Service Provider as the phone is locked for ever to the service provider from whom you buy.
20> A class action lawsuit already in USA for poor reception and connectivity where 3G already exists. By the time u get to try 3G in India, ur phone will already be out-of-warranty
21> Needs Activation thru iTunes everytime Sim Card is changed (of-course same service provider)
    22> No memos
    23> No Voice Dialing
24> No Video Output to TV (iPod has this feature)
25> Screen catches lot of fingerprint – Needs wiping before u watch a movie
16> GPS Maps will only show ur location and will not provide you turn by turn navgation to an area.

I have a 6000 rupees Nokia which can do all of this. Do u still want iPhone?

Why does the airtel nd vodafone cost too high only for the device nd a seperate cost for the data plans……

while the same device costs only $199, 8GB(8300/- approx)

both the Apple and the network Operators(Airtel and Vodafone) are trying to make their business at the cost of common people……

    10K for 8GB is fine…..nd thats my suggestion too……

  38. Seggie Says:

Recent Survey done by TimesOfIndia on Who would want to purchase an iPhone priced at 31K?, the result are even more whooping. 90% Say No, 7% Say they would still buy it, Remaining are still unsure.

In short, 93% of the public won’t be interesting in buying iPhone.

  43. adi Says:

People…there is a reason why the phone is priced so high keeping in mind high duties the govt charges. However even if you compare the at&t and airtel price, the latter is probably cheaper. Here how it is:

There is a myth in the market place on low pricing of the product (reference price point being
Rs. 8000 or Rs.12000/- which refers to AT&T pricing of USD 199 or USD 299).

The reports don’t factor the commitment which a customers needs to give for a particular Price Plan for a period of 24 Months in the case of AT&T. For O2 the commitment is for 18 months with selected plans.

A brief comparison shows the Total Cost of Ownership being very high in such cases :

    Comparison between AT&T,O2 and Airtel

The total cost of ownership for the period of 24 months for a 8 GB model is around Rs.81000/-! The total cost of ownership for O2 is around Rs.200000/- over a period of 18 months

So In India its still cheaper. Plus I think Airtel is offering 500mbps of free data downloads which is quite a bit.

BTW, I have bought the phone and it kicks assssssssss..

  44. Hariprasad C M Says:

i phone is priced equall to 160 GB laptop of branded one, its just a phone of 16 GB it cannot compared to laptop for its features. instead of getting iphone better to go for cheaper hand set and lap top.
